What's it like to do an internship at The People Group?

Dylan Douwes (23) started his graduation internship at the Marketing department of in September The People Group and expects to graduate in February 2022. We asked Dylan how he likes his internship period so far and what his plans are for the future. Read more below.

What training do you do and what are the things you learn?

I am now in the final year of the ICT & Media Design course at Fontys University of Applied Sciences in Tilburg. Here I learn how to devise ICT-based media concepts with which you can convey the intended message to target groups. I also learn how to produce user-friendly applications through subjects such as Strategy & Concept, UX/UI, Development and Data Science. I put the theory that I mastered during these courses into practice by doing interesting assignments for various companies.

How did you end up at The People Group?

Graduate students from ICT & Media Design often end up as UX/UI designers or front-end developers. I personally wanted to learn more about online marketing, which was only a small part of my education. Then an opportunity to do this arose The People Group. What convinced me next was the fact that the company operates in Civil Engineering and that I could learn about the customer side of marketing. That complicated technical industry and the switch from agency side to client side were challenges that I was eager to take on.

How are you enjoying your internship period so far?

Time flies by and I really like it. I have nice and helpful colleagues and am involved in interesting projects for various innovative products and services. This means that at TPG it doesn't feel like you are 'just an intern', you are part of the team from your first day. It is nice to get a taste of the business world and to work together with different departments. I regularly deal with colleagues from HR, Recruitment and Customer Sales and I also learn from different areas of expertise.

I also get the opportunity to learn more about major social topics such as digitalization in Dutch infrastructure and civil engineering, but also about the energy and heat transition. I also like the atmosphere within the company: working hard and achieving results, but there is also time and space for a nice drink from time to time.

What else do you hope to get out of your internship period?

I especially hope to further develop myself in areas such as SEO and the more strategic aspects of online marketing. I would also like it if the product resulting from my graduation assignment was later used in practice. But above all, I now want to learn a lot from the experienced colleagues around me and of course graduate successfully.
